The prostate gland is a small organ close to the size of a walnut placed near the bladder. The prostate gland produces a seminal liquid. Anatomically the prostate glands are more defined in men than in women. Thereby men are the real victims of prostate cancer. The causes of prostate cancer differ from one patient to the other. The following are the reasons that are often believed to the causes of prostate cancer in men:

  • The risk of prostate cancer increases in men after they cross the age of 50. So the cancer cells can gradually develop as a result of aging
  • The African-Caribbean and African men are more prone to this type of cancer than the men who belong to other ethnicities.
  • Prostate cancer can also travel through the genes.
  • Obesity can cause prostate cancer
  • Too much of calcium consumption can increase the chances of prostate cancer in men. However, research based on how a person’s food habit can cause cancer has only partially come out.

Health Supplements that can fight off prostate cancer:

  • Tomatoes are rich in components like Lycopene, which fights against prostate cancer
  • Develop the habit of drinking green tea at least twice a day.
  • Take food that is rich in Lycopene and Selenium. In fact, fruits that contain lycopene can actually control any type of cancer. Carrots also contain a decent level of lycopene.
  • Make sure one of the following forms a part of your everyday meal, sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage.
  • As far as fruits are concerned, consume a decent quantum of cranberries, grapes, watermelon and red fruits like pomegranate.
  • The best thing about these cancer supplements is that they are available anywhere and doesn’t require a lot of cooking skills. Most of them are good for raw consumption.

Women and Prostate Cancer:

As far as prostate gland is concerned, science is yet to answer one question. Do women have prostate glands? Though a lot of scientific answers are ambiguous, based on the available data, we are giving you a simple conclusion. The female body has something called the Skene’s glands. Some believe that the Skene’s gland is a women’s prostate gland. The prostate gland secretes a seminal liquid, when that’s what Skene’s gland does, the female’s body doesn’t require prostate gland in addition. So the cause and effect of the prostate cancer in women is actually a rare possibility. There are certain cancer types that go based on gender and prostate cancer is one among them. The chances of women getting prostate cancer are very slim. Research says that only about 0.003% of women get cancer in the genital-urinary tract and associated organs. So as far as prostate cancer is concerned, women can stay calm.

Common cold:
It is an infectious disease which affects the respiratory tract making it harder for us to breathe. Cold is a common infectious disease that is usually caused by humans. There are many viruses which cause the common cold. The Human body does not produce immunity to all these viruses, and that’s why we get cold repeatedly, and that is why it is so common. There are about two hundred viruses that cause the common cold; the rhinovirus is the most common of all. People with asthma are usually more vulnerable to such infections.

Common cold

Symptoms of cold:  Our bodies reacting to the cold virus are the symptoms of common cold.

The following are some of the symptoms of common cold:

  • A sore throat.
  • Mild fever.
  • Nose blockage.
  • Cough.
  • Difficulty while breathing.
  • Running nose.
  • Muscle ache.
  • Appetite loss.
  • Sneezing.

Sometimes our body does not react or show any symptoms to the cold virus, as sometimes our immune system reacts differently to different viruses.

Causes and transmission of the common cold: The most common virus that causes cold is the rhinovirus. Other viruses that cause cold are influenza virus, adenovirus, parainfluenza virus, etc.

Transmission of these viruses is usually via airborne droplets. Or if you have direct contact with a person who is infected with a cold or even touches any object that was handled by a person with a cold. The rhino virus can spread to someone else in the first three days; the effect slows down after that.

Prevention of cold:

We need to make ourselves comfortable during the times of cold, as our body requires rest to fight against these viruses.

Though we cannot help the transmission of cold viruses into our body, there are certain precautions we can take to prevent cold.

Some of the precautions are listed below:

  • Washing hands.
  • Keeping things clean.
  • Using tissues.
  • Avoid sharing personal things.
  • Avoid contact with a person who has a cold.
  • Good Hygiene.

Washing Hands:  You must always keep your hands clean as we may touch various objects and end up putting food into our mouths with the same hands causing germs to enter our body. Always use soaps or a hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean.

Keeping things clean: Always keep your surroundings clean in such a way dust does not get accumulated on the objects you use. You can use disinfectants to keep the floors and other things clean.

Using tissues: When you have a cold, you must use tissues and dispose of those tissues immediately as the viruses might spread to others.

Avoid sharing personal things: Person things like hand kerchiefs, soaps, glasses, plates, towels, etc. with others. If an individual who has the cold shares these things with you, then there is a high chance you might get affected with the cold virus too.

Avoid contact with a person who has a cold: Trying to avoid direct contact with a person who has a cold is the best thing you can do.

Good Hygiene: Maintaining good health is always better to prevent various germs from entering our body.
